The objective of the InfoVox project is to combine speech recognition and language processing techniques in a vocal information server prototype implementing a mixed access (voice over the phone and text over the Internet) to a Web server providing tourist information (in our case, typically, the restaurants in the city of Martigny).
The development of such a prototype will allow the project partners to strengthen their expertise in the field of Advanced Computer Telephony Applications.
The important issues that are investigated in InfoVox include:
- the improvement of speech recognition techniques dedicated to telephony applications (and especially GSM speech) and their robustness to noise;
- the study of flexible vocabulary approaches well adapted for quick new application design;
- advanced user interaction based on better coupling between speech recognition and language processing.
